Traffic Engineering

SEI traffic engineers understand the importance of service integration and multimodal transportation alternatives that minimize congestion and delays for motorists and support the continued growth of communities. Not many civil engineering firms provide this service in house concurrent with other design processes. Engineering studies of projected traffic operations, traffic control system optimization and design, transit, pedestrian and bike access, goods movement analysis, and site specific parking, contribute to the total transportation solutions that SEI can deliver.

Capabilities:

  • Traffic engineering studies and concept reports for Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) projects as outlined in the plan development process.
  • Signal warrant analyses that determine the need for turn lanes, traffic signals, and any additional traffic lanes necessary for proposed growth and development.
  • Capacity analyses that indicate an intersection’s level of service for existing and future conditions.
  • Signal timing and phasing plans that, based on the characteristics of an intersection or group of intersections, detail the timing parameters for programming traffic signal controllers.
  • Engineering studies and reports for proposed residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use developments and public schools.
  • Traffic impact studies that determine the impact a proposed development may have on an existing roadway network.

  • Cobb County DOT: Cooper Lake Road at King Springs RoadCooper-Lake_King-Springs_Aerial SEI designed a roundabout at this intersection for CCDOT. An intersection improvement was warranted due insufficient stopping sight distance approaching from the North along King Springs Road and an insufficient sight distance looking right approaching the form the South along King Springs Road. Additionally, the horizontal alignment of Cooper Lake Road has a non AASHTO standard curve for the current speed design. The roundabout has been placed on the centerline of Cooper Lake Road...
  • Cobb County DOT: Transit Supportive Sidewalks: N. Cobb Parkway, Hicks Road, County Services ParkwayCobb-County_TransSupSidewalk SEI worked closely with Cobb County DOT and GDOT to design and engineer these roadway enhancements in an effort to improve pedestrian access to CCT transit stops as well as improve connectivity and pedestrian safety. This project consists of adding or improving CCT-approved bus stops & adding 5’ sidewalks along both sides of a ½ mile corridor of North Cobb Parkway from Bells Ferry Road south to the Canton Road Connector. All roadway segments have been designed or redesigned to meet current Cobb County and GDOT roadway standards...
  • Cobb County DOT: East West Connector at Fontaine RoadEW Connector_900x406jpg This project included the addition of a northbound free flow right turn lane off Fontaine Road at the intersection with the East West Connector. The purpose of the intersection improvement is to improve the traffic operations and enhance the safety of this intersection. The challenge of the project was to design the free flow lane...
